Mother jumps to her death after five-year-old son falls from eighth floor in Jumeirah Lake Towers ,Dubai”……….

……”The security guard who tried to catch the boy got injured and was later sent to hospital. Upon seeing this, she became hysterical and rushed to her apartment where she jumped out of the window. The boy died shortly after, but the mother died instantly, police said.”

The incident points to the need for ‘Emotional Self Control& Serious Self Awareness’–two EQ skills essential ‘EVEN for an ordinary home maker role, apart from leaders and managers of different caliber. That clears our doubts about the need for developing these competencies,whatever may be the role that we are in; here in this travel on earth.

Its really shocking ,but to learn lessons from events that happened,elsewhere ,will help us to face  difficult life  situations    intelligently,wisely and the best way possible.If anything can cause A mother not to go up & jump but to sit beside the son(the minimum to console the teenager or to call for help to make a last attempt to save),that one thing is most desirable in any body’s life.

When one could apply the EQ skills in real life,it saves not only his life but the life of many with whom he interacts,depending on his realm.

When we are so ‘busy’, and ”they do not have time for all that,because of business trips” as some people observed, we are neglecting something which is prime  just for  the existence. As Oliver Goldsmith puts it ”Real greatness  is  in  getting  up from the fall,than not to fall”.

We cannot expect a life without problems and challenges,but TRAIN our Heart And MIND ,how to face it with a real Self Awareness and Emotional Self Control. Creating Engagement-not only for professional go up,even to survive,-the Sharjah Tower fire incident

The Gulf News Reported the  25 storied Al Baker Tower in sharjah on fire at 2.30 am on 24th Jnuary 2012,leaving 125families “homeless”.

On reading to get the real cause of fire,some important points were noted as:

“The last building had a fire alarm and water sprinklers, but they did not work. We cannot know for sure how safe a building can be. It should be the responsibility of the Civil Defence to work quickly in putting out the fire. The damage [in Al Baker Tower] would not have happened if they had doused the fire when it was still on the first five floors”  —-Sharjah fire victim

The first floor under fire is noted by many,who tried to escape,as early as possible,and the fire spread up to the 24 th floor.This is the report from another witness.First of all our negligence {like; barbeque/putting a lighted cigarette,in the balcony ,opening & keeping a window}and lack of awareness may cause  such disasters.Again sensitivity towards the needs of next person  is essential for helping in all ways  not to spread it.Instead of blaming the civil defense,one should think of “what can I do to control the situation,till they come”.

It seems to me as a situation of creating and sustaining engagement. If the vital element of engagement is there as a trait in the group,it would not have spread  up to the 24 th floor.Again the difference between the activity of an engaged employee and a disengaged one  is also played in the  rescue operation.It goes  further still deep to the engagement of workers involved even in the construction of the building.

While a disaster like this happen,somebody has to CREATE  engagement and some has to be deeply engaged with the process of rescue,instead of ,”i have to do something,let me do this”.Also the rescue  team members were  ,if  not engaged employees,not only the building but also the lives of people inside would have been affected,but since the engagement skills were top,they could rescue every one though little savings lost in fire(unavoidable!!).

Means,”because i am on call let me do this”can be the disengaged state of mind in doing it,where as,forgetting the self,acquiring the pleasure of being serviceable at the time of crucial need, explains the engaged state!.Thus  attain the flow state of the activity due to internal driving force of maximum achievement,in being useful when it was essential.If creating &sustaining engagement is so vital  ,not only for professional upheaval but  for our survival &mere existence also at times  ,why not acquire those  skills??

”JUST FIVE MINUTES ,PLEASE”

I ts all about; how our communication changes its meaning,depending on the culture of the speaker /group he belongs.

This small but real&remarkable incident  was communicated to me by one of my “celebrity friends”.

She had taken an appointment from another continent, with a media manager,who gave her the  time. ONCE she reached in the city,of his  country,(just for two days,for this & a couple of similar appointments),it was 9 am .The media manager came at the reception,and told her,he is in a meeting with the MD and so come @ 4pm.He has added that she can meet  a lot of ‘useful’ friends and colleagues and even can have a former introduction  of her purpose of visiting him,& can settle it there.

Impressed ,however,by the motivation,she wandered,shopped,dined there  and brought the 4 pm,then called the manager.He asked ,where exactly she is waiting,then told to wait for ” just Five  minutes, I am coming there”.She and two colleagues waited in the parked car,till 5.30 pm,and called again.This time manager told he is already out &walking towards her &”just five minutes,please”.

Convinced of her foolishness,she wanted  to runaway,as of now, all appointments nearby are pending.Still,the usual power of media,really made her wait one more hour,@6.30pm again she called,he said,”I am already here,just two minutes to cross the road ” AND SHE SAID SHE BELIEVED IT , waited till 7.30pm and left the city. After exactly 7 minutes his call came ,that he has reached,and” come soon”.Irritated,but happy that it has come to an end,she returned to the same place and met him.Then the climax,the manager told her that he was in a town two hrs  away,want her not to go,so said five minutes!!

In  a TWO day Trip  ,one precious day went just like that.She returned,unfulfilled ,her mission.

Whom do you support,my friend,who did not have the cultural competency of the land/people to realize,there(?) 5 minutes can be like this-

OR the manager ,who  does not had the EQ skill (self confidence) to admit, that it will take two hours to reach,with an apology??? what are the other elements, which u think, are embedded in the happening ?

On 16 th september,2011, ‘The Krishna Chronicles” in Dubai,staged by  Padmashree Shobhana,famous cine artist ,dancer&choreographer, really brought a perfection to the Onam celebrations conducted by FEKCA. It was indeed  a time spent  for its worth.When I have asked,my children  said ‘no,not coming'(the usual busy!) as well  their father.

But as we mothers always do, I could motivate  them  positively,and reach in time to attend the full ‘Krishna”.I was all the more happy when I heard  appreciation from the father and both the children;”excellent creativity”our son,medical student , exclaimed,”so  powerful body language”,our daughter added to it,though they are not used to such programs unlike myself.

While participating in that feast of wonderful  human dedication,putting the DNA of each cell into action,I was wondering,how beautifully she has used the EQ Skills,  in designing,directing,choreographing,presenting,coordinating the team members,customizing it for Dubai(40 =18 members) and  bridging the CULTURAL DIFFERENCES &DIVERSITIES in  small scale among  us- the audience- and in a wider screen ,in the whole world. That is how  the performance has become an explicit expression of  an excellent coordination of HEART,MIND & BODY.(the entire team) Creativity in excellence is  less for that,   excellent creativity and perfection in display ,is little  more apt.’‘Hearty Congras”

If it is possible,why can’t you also attain such excellence in any of your special God given talent,by mixing it with EQ Skills,Creativity,proper communication,Cross cultural Competence and  Diversity skills? Cultural Diversity, what IF it lacks? Learn from, Maureen Chao’s experience

The media celebrated the incident ,[which is the lack of her awareness of cultural diversities in the region],as follows:

{“US Vice-Consul Maureen Chao told Indian students on Friday that her “skin became dirty and dark like the Tamilians” after a longtrain journey, according to Indian media — referring to people from the southern state of Tamil Nadu.”

“During her speech in the Tamil Nadu capital, Chennai, Chao was quoted as saying: “I was on a 24-hour train trip from Delhi to (the eastern Indian state of) Orissa.”
“But, after 72 hours, the train still did not reach the destination… and my skin became dirty and dark like the Tamilians.”..”

RESULT

“The United States has apologized for controversial remarks made by a US diplomat who spoke of “dark and dirty” Indians, calling the comments “inappropriate” } ”

The consul accepted her lack of awareness,by starting cross cultural studies,very seriously.

“DOES IT FIT FOR ME? DOES TRAINING WORK?” CAN PEOPLE CHANGE? what is the scientific proof?

Diversity Skills & Cross Cultural Competence -for better interactions

Globalization has caused us to link more tight and more frequent,than ever before.As per last years assessment,the middle east is hosting around 173 nationalities in some of her cities.Though for practical  purposes, we never show or express our differences,IT does exist among us; work,grow and multiply with us,as years pass by. Finally all suppressed,hidden items,will come up and fight with us,internally (secretly!),or externally(publicly),at times when we do not want that to happen at all…………….!

How can we avoid collapsing in this multitude of diversities anywhere and everywhere? If we cannot,that is how some of us become permanently sick and on medication.Because everything starts with,our internal strength,  one has to increase  this by reducing the differences and hence bridging the gap between oneself  and the rest of the  world represented in his work pace.It really needs   serious training to  improve these skills which is already there,in less active form;to go up in corporate ladder or  the minimum to keep the job with proper interactions with all  others.

In Culture ,what is visible,  is only the TIP of the ice berg.The majority is underneath,which necessitates cross cultural training for proper interaction. This sustains our  job in a foreign country of different culture,where again 173 nationalities join hands for productivity &development.

LEADING WITHOUT EQ-A CASE STUDY

A recent investigatory report on present Teenager issues,in the daily “Malayala Manorama” under the title “our Children,without our Notice” has shed light into many real incidents that happened among school children&teenagers,from north to south,and east to west, inside a small state in India.The outcome,really shuddered all socially active people  around the Globe,who are involved or interested in the formation of the young generation.(Reference: The daily “Malayala  Manorama” August 2, 2011 to 9th august ).The  incidents collected and reported,points to the urgent  basic need,’ to change’ the present situations by taking strong and heathy reformational actions at the origin-the source, ie, our children.

WHAT?????

Yes, EQ Training from the age group 10 yrs or 12, will  be one of these actions,to implement real change  at the source!
